Product Description
When Elizabeth, a young pre-med. student happens upon Damien, a dog being used in laboratory research on her campus, she has no way of knowing how drastically her life- and her beliefs- will be changed. Without meaning to, she slowly becomes drawn into the dog's fate and is soon torn between the lo9ve and respect she has come to feel for Damien and the sense of loyalty and obligation she feels for the medical profession as well as her father and grandfather, both cardiac surgeons.
With an uncanny ability to write convincingly about life from the point of view of a canine, Diane Jessup tells an extraordinary story of friendship and loyalty. Few writers have ever shown the world of man's closest friend as clearly and movingly. For anyone who has ever loved a dog this is a must read.

the dog who spoke with gods October 24, 2008 Lydia Alexander Moon Although I concider myself a cat person, I love a good animal story wherever I can find it. I totally recommend this book to anyone, whether they like cats, dogs or are just after a really good read. I picked out The Dog Who Spoke With Gods while browsing the fiction aisle in B&N. When I began reading it a few days later, I was totally pulled in to the story of Elizabeth and her singleminded devotion to Damien, a laboratory dog, and the life-altering changes she underwent because of this dog. It was hard to put this book down. I was so amazed by author Diane Jessop's wonderful writing style and her storytelling ability. As I got further along into the book, I could tell she put her heart and soul into its creation. Here it is a few days after I have finished reading it, and I am still thinking about it. I must warn you, it does not have a happy ending, But when you are done reading it, you will come away with insites into things you may or may not have concidered before. This book is a keeper. I hope someone makes it into a movie.
Wonderful first half, awful second half August 15, 2008 J. Rizk (Washington) When I started this book I was very excited about it as it was well written, realistic, fantastic characters, good versus evil....seemed the best of everything...not to mention I love dogs. When the dog started talking though, the whole thing fell apart for me and it just got worse. Though the main character was a young, intelligent college student, she was undoubtedly the most stupid human on the face of the earth. The people she trusted (all her enemies), the idiotic decisions she made....big DUH!!! I honestly can't believe this book got 5 stars at all. The ending was horrible. I finished the book because for me it was such a joke how bad it got and I honestly wondered if it could get worse. YES!!! Borrow it from someone, read the first half and then pass it on to someone else. Make up your own ending. Girl runs off with dog, finds understanding rental situation, reapplies to different college for an Animal Science Degree, goes on to vet school and becomes the best alternative vet out there.

what ever you do, dont spend money on this book. it is the worst piece of propaganda i have read in a long time. compared to the working pitbull, this book does nothing but damage the breed. avoid at all costs.
Great book. May 10, 2008 RADIO! Who needs a RADIO?! This was a wonderful book. A little far-fetched on a few things, but sooooo good. If you love dogs (especially pit bulls), and you hate the way they are treated by most people, you will like this book. Good read!
A fabulous read...but not in public! April 15, 2008 Jessica L. Lawrence (North Carolina) So first I must say, I cried almost all the way through this book. That being said, it was a great read. I loved the story and the lack of cookie-cutter storyline that you would have expected. i do think it would have been awesome if Elizabeth had become a Vet... Some of the character development was a little boring... the dog storyline was way more interesting to me than the other characters. The overall awesomeness of this story will appeal to any pit bull lover, or anyone who has felt that strong, unexplainable bond with their pet.
